Upcountry History Museum
General Information
The Upcountry History Museum, located in Greenville, South Carolina, opened to the public on September 29, 2007. Its mission is to promote, present and preserve the history of Upcountry South Carolina through education, research and service. The Museum is a highly interactive, state-of-the-art facility, presenting the unique history of the state’s Upcountry region and outlining the development of the region in terms of the independent character that gives it a distinct identity.
This Museum was inspired by a powerful idea—the idea that a vital community is made up of shared memories and an awareness of how past events shape our present and future. The Museum connects us to the past in a dynamic and personal way: by experiencing history through the stories of people who made our region the unique and special place it is today. From the opening sound and light show, through two floors of exhibit galleries, to our teaching, research and visitor service areas, you’ll be taken on an interactive journey that uses cutting-edge technologies and engaging exhibits to explore the Upcountry’s past and provide insight for the future.
